WELCOME TO THE JAMBOREE TROOP 605 WEBSITE |
|
Troop 605 is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and part of the largest council in the country - The Great Salt Lake Council. Forty Scouts - 36 fine young men and 4 dedicated adults prepared for well over a year to attend the National Scout Jamboree at Ft. A.P. Hill in Virginia. The 2010 National Scout Jamboree was extra special as it occurred during the 100th anniversary year of Scouting in the United States of America. Troop 605 was the first of sixteen troops from the GSLC Contingent to depart Salt Lake City for a six-day tour of historic locations along the east coast before attending the Jamboree. Departure was on July 18th at 11:40 PM, the red-eye flight to JFK. Troop 605 arrived in New York at 6:00 AM and had climbed to the top of the Empire State Building before Noon. A trip to Times Square finished off the first day. Troop 605 visited Arlington National Cemetery on the last day of the pre-Jamboree tour. The day began with two of the Scouts performing before more than 600 gathered at the Amphitheater for Sunday Service. Asst. Senior Patrol Leader Brandon Elwell, delivered a Multi-Denominational Talk about Arlington Cemetery, Scouting, Diversity and Reverence. The talk concluded with a prayer and then fellow Scout, Troop Bugler Cubby DeBry, played TAPS. Truly an outstanding performance by two of the Scouts of Troop 605. The Troop 605 Itinerary and summary of the historic spots visited, shown at the right, and the Jamboree Photos page will give you an idea of the awesome adventure experienced by the Scouts of Troop 605 and the GSLC Contingent. After the six-day pre-Jamboree tour, Troop 605 attended the National Scout Jamboree from July 26th through August 3rd. The photos and stories sent back from the Jamboree tell the story better than a few words here could possibly do. Thank You for visiting Troop 605! Troop 605 Announcements TROOP 605 will have its Reunion Party on September 9th at Christ United Methodist Church, beginning at 7:30 PM. Please see Scoutmaster Doug’s announcement HERE!
